The area that houses the Fort Saskatchewan Museum, the old Fort Site and the Wardens House has been renamed Peter T. Ream Historic Park to pay tribute to the man who was instrumental in helping preserve our rich history.

In addition to a demanding career as a minister, Dr. Ream followed his interest in the history of Fort Saskatchewan by publishing a book, The Fort on the Saskatchewan.  He then assisted in the formation of the Fort Saskatchewan Historical Society in 1958 and served as President of the Society for 34 years.

Among his many other accomplishments, Dr. Ream initiated acquisition of the old Court House and three acres of surrounding land for a Museum and Historic Site, obtained Provincial Historic Resource Designation of the site of the original North West Mounted Police Fort, the Court House and the 1905 CN Railway Station.  He was inducted into the Edmonton Historical Hall of Fame and awarded the Distinguished Life Commitment Award from the Alberta Museums Association in 1996.

Dr. Ream passed away in 2004.
